Dear Heather_T, Hi there. In order to help you with your genealogy, could you please elaborate on your mini tree posted above?
For example, do you have Alan POTTS Death Certificate? What State of Australia did he settle? Was he your grandfather? Did Alan POTTS have any siblings? More info...
Tip: Edit this journal and have POTTS, ROBINSON, LAYBURN, LEYBOURN, LEYBOURNE at the bottom written in uppercase and separated by commas. If you then have a look, surnames will become clickable links back to surname wiki pages and/or other researchers.
POTTS is a very common and popular surname, so it is best to carefully work backwards from yourself.
If your ancestors emigrated to Australia, data can be freely found at the National Archives of Australia.
Also check bdms for each State of Australia. Click on my profile to see journals I have written on genealogy in every State of Australia...heaps of links to look through.
For the ones from England, they should appear on Census' taken every 10 years, searchable from 1901, 1891, 1881, 1871, 1861, 1851, 1841 and in some cases earlier depending on which County.
You can post lookup requests at rootschat.com. Firstly sign up as a free member. Then goto the England general board to see if a rootschatter can find their marriage. It is a possible clue that they could have married in Sunderland. RootsChat.com - England - Durham ... see Lookup Requests and Resources

Alison

Hi Heather
Are you still looking for Potts? I have information about the Potts family in County Durham dating from the 19th century.
You can let me know.
