Looking for proof of James & Jane Eliza Hanright in Rosinallis, Ireland

Query by farmrpat

I'm a descendant of James & Jane Hanright through their son, William A Hanright who was born about 1816 in Ireland. Thomas Rice was William's brother. Donna Hanright who lives in Ontario, Canada is responsible for a lot of the family lineage info. I have been unable to find any info in Rosenallis, Ireland where they are supposed to have come from. I was told by a nephew-in-law of mine, who went to Cork, that there were Hanrights there. I haven't been able to pull up any phone numbers in Ireland for a Hanright on the internet. From what I have seen in the Canadian Census's, Thomas was listed as being born in PEI in one of them. I have seen differing dates for his birth also which makes it hard to determine his actual date of birth. If James & Jane came here before 1920 as Donna thinks, then Thomas would not have been born in Ireland. He appeared in the Westmorland County, New Brunswick census of 1851 where he was married to Albion Chappell and he was 29 yrs. Estimated birth year would be 1822/23. His name was spelled Handwright.

If anyone has any leads regarding the Ireland connection, would love to hear from them. You can contact me at [email protected]

Hi Odele?
Are you in New Zealand? It showed in one of the Census's in Canada that he was born on PEI but folks trying to trace him feel that he was born in 1822. I would love the info on his death and marriage certificates. If you have his death certificate, you must be in New Zealand.
I just ran across a Thomas Hanright that went to a NY poorhouse when he was 50 and said that he was from County Cerrey, Ireland. I think it should have been Kerrey but am not sure. I don't know if this was our Thomas, or another Thomas Hanright.

Ode; I meant to add to your msg. Louisa Albion Hanright was a sister to my g-gf. Thomas's wife's name was Albion Chappell. Her sister Susan Jane Chappell married my gg-gf, William Hanright and they named their daughter after Susan's sister Albion.

Hi, yes I have the death certificate, but am also receiving other information from canada about him. No point in sending it !!

We are pretty sure 99% he lied about his age when he married my grandgranmother elizabeth cacutt - age as 39years in 1876, making his birth date 1837. His Brother James was born in 1822 - Canadian Census 1881 states and also still living in the house was Jane their mother age 100yrs.

But with the new information he was married twice and had 4 children in total. Also his first wife died and he never divorced his 2nd, took off via england to nz.

Thomas may have been born in 1823, but I will look for evidence for this.
Now with his marriage cert having trouble with trying to NZ to release it.
What part of the Hanright family are you from???

Hi, sorry I havent been on the computer, due to health problems. Have finished the Hanright family tree. The name Hanright changed, look up the Gaelic name and you should find that they are from inner northen Ireland. Thomas did lie about his age and birth date, he was born in Ireland around 1819 and came to NZ around 1867, I have newspapers with his name, stating he was a bridge/engineer from Canada and he did remarry here illealy with my great mother Elizabeth Cacutt and they had 6 children, the tree is big and my mother last of the Hanright-oldest brother Frank Hanright great great granson.
Our dna will continue.

I am in the process of putting photos of him and his nz wife together with the canadian saga as well. 3 wives who would have thought!!!
He became quite well known in NZ and owned a Pub and then a large farm in Taranaki.
His nz wife out lived him of course and remarried and become Bloxham - one more son and he was killed in WW1.

Regards Ode

Hi Odele; As yourself, have been busy getting ready for winter on the farm and trying to clear trees from a field.
My GG-grandfather, William Hanright, was Thomas' brother. William's son, Charles A Hanright was my G-grandfather and his son Charles Frendy Hanright was my grandfather. My father, Howard Minor Hanright, was Charles Frendy Hanright's oldest son.
What is the gaelic name for hanright? Is county cork or kerry in Northern Ireland?
Pat Hanright Themelis, Upstate New York, USA

On the website aidanmanning.ca there is a reference to James Hanright, a carpenter from Rosenallis, who arrived in York in May 1820 with his wife and four children. It says that he tried unsuccessfully to enter Canada through PEI. Andrew Wilson
