Looking for TOENNIS, PLOGMANN, ZUMBAHLEN, KLUNE of Cincinnati, Ohio

Query by beckykoelling

My mom was Kathleen TOENNIS, daughter of Ralph Theodore TOENNIS (1901-1981) and Marie Frances WEHMEYER (1903-1975) of Norwood, Cincinnati, Hamilton, OH). Ralph was the son of John Theodor TOENNIS (1829-1908) and Anna Maria ZUMBAHLEN (1835-1916). John and Anna Maria had 9 children. 8 of those children grew to adulthood and married. There are many descendants of this couple and I would love to connect with others!
John Theodor was born somewhere in Germany, he was a tailor and came to the US in 1845. I do not know where in Germany he was from or who his parents or siblings were. I have tried many times and ways to locate him in hte 1850 census, but have had no luck.
Anna Maria came to the US the same year from Oldenburg, Germany.
Children of John Theodor and Anna Maria were:
Joseph (1854-abt. 1875)
Mary (1861-aft. 1920) married Herman KEMPER abt. 1885 in Cincinnati
Clements A. (1863-1940) married Louisa in Cincinnati.
Elisabeth (1865-) married Frank KIPPENBROCK in Cincinnati
Anna (1867) married Bernard STAUTBERG abt. 1890 in Cincinnati
Bernadina (1869) married Fred PLOGMANN abt. 1894 in Cincinnati
Helena (1872) married Bernard FLAKE in Cincinnati
Frank Clemens (my g-grandfather) (1874-1931) married Catherine Elizabeth PLOGMANN 1900 in Cincinnati
William (1878-1951) married Malinda in Cincinnati

Anna Maria ZUMBAHLEN was the daughter of Joseph ZUMBAHLEN (1792-1860) and Elisabeth WOLFING (1795-1870).
It is quite possible that Joseph was Johann Henrich Joseph ZUMBAHLEN who was born in Dinklage, Oldenburg christened 1 FEB 1792, son of Wernerus ZUM BAHLEN (1751-1826) and Anna Catherina SEHLHORST (1762-). Joseph and Elisabeth may have had 13 children, many who came to Cincinnati or Illinois and settled there.
I know for certain that there was Elisabeth (1825-1904) who married Bernard Mohrhaus (1823-aft. 1880). Bernard was a grocer in Cincinnati. Elisabeth and Bernard had at least 6 children.
Clemens ZUMBAHLEN (1838-1896) who married Helana E. DAY (born 1845 on a ship enroute to the US from Germany). Clemens and Helana had at least 6 children.

Other possible children of Joseph and Elisabeth were:

Otto Henry (1821-1864) married Louisa WURTZ and settled in St. Louis, Missouri
Maria A. (1824-) married Frank RIELAGE settled in Cincinnati, Ohio
Mary Catherine (1826-1914) married John Bernard RIESSELMAN and settled in Cincinnati, OH.
Caroline (1829-) married John RIELAG and settled in Cincinnati, OH
Heinrich (1830-1912) married Helena LUETTMAN in Cincinnati and settled in Covington KY.
Bernadine (1831-) who married first, Henry Anton DEIE in 1846 Cincinnati, then married second, Martin SCHULZ, settled in Cincinnati.
Herman Heinrich (1832) married Elizabeth Bernadina TEGENKAMP 1860 in Effingham, IL, settled in Illinois.
H. (1833-) married Anna KATHARINE about 1867. Died before 1900 in Illinois.
Herman (1836) Was possibly in Big Spring, Shelby, Illinois in 1880, but it's not quite legible.
Joseph (1839) married Mary Elizabeth ? about 1867 in Illinois. They had 8 children.

I would love to find others that are researching or are descendants of the TOENNIS and ZUMBAHLEN family!

Hi Becky,

Bernadina and Frederick were my great grandparents. I have found her name misspelled on all kinds of documents, but your post seems to indicate you have it right, and I will be tracking down her family documents ASAP! I have a family tree going over on Wikitree. You can search for them there. (our family "Plogman" must have dropped the extra "n".)

I am mostly doing ancestors atm - I have many, many cousins and hoping they will fill in soem of the many branches on our family tree! TY for posting.
