Looking for William North of Bedford Co. Virginia

Journal by sonja

William North was my 5th grandfather, also my 4th grandfather and also my 3rd grandfather! I think if our ancestor had realized how hard it was going to be for their family to trace them, they wouldn't have done that! But researching them makes me feel I know them personally! My brother has told me that for 20 years and I have been searching for him on the net since last christmas and now I understand just what he has meant all these years! I am now obsessed. I search everyday, even every spare minute at work and that is difficult seeing as I am a nurse at a teaching hospital! But, every spare moment I have is devoted to finding my grandparents and great and great and great.....

Hi Sonja,

I've been looking for info on Enoch and Mary Ward North. I can not find any info on them before they married. I think Enoch was born in Virginia and she in Ky, The info I have is in Harrison county,Ky where I live. I have found their marriage cert...married 2/29/1836 in Harrison co. and in Harrison co census. Others have researched them too but no luck. Lott, Benjamin and William North have been mentioned in early tax rolls of my county. I would love to be the the one to find their parents and siblings!

I am really not sure about Enoch but I will be glad to ask my brother. He is the real historian on the north family. We are at a stand still right now because they are originally from England and there are two groups of English Norths a aristocratic group and a less wealthy group and unless you have a town where they shipped from you can't really go any further. All I know is they came to Bedford county Virginia to settle 650 acres and paid rent to the queen. Which is a beautiful plantation. But I will ask my brother as soon as I get home from work and get right back to you. But can tell you this much polly Callaways family were from kentucky. When William died she was pregnant from what can understand and had William his first born. He must have been around 7 maybe. She left him with one of Abrahams sons and moved back there where her family was. I have a copy of that guardianship paper. She married again and had 9 more children. Also my brother has always told me that we had family in kentucky. He said after William became of age he left Virginia with the inheritance money he got from his father's part from his grandfather's will gave his slave he inherited his freedom and traveled towards kentucky where he had family and eventually settled in Ohio which is where we were raised. Hope this helps a little. Sorry about rambling on. I can talk about it forever...
