Linda Anso was my mother. she was the youngest child of martin and Elizabeth. She married Alfred Parke. I remember some stories about uncle Bill. i also remember that Ruby was a Romney Gypsy and read palms. I rember this because she was going to read my palm as a child after my Mothers but refused after reading my Mothers. my mother died some months later. interesting?? i have always felt that she saw it in the palm lines.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Linda, but some of my mother's happiest childhood memories relate to Linda. My mother (who is still alive) is Daphne and she is Bill and Ruby's oldest child. My grandmother Ruby was not a Romany gypsy and would have found that description highly amusing!(Wait till I tell Mum!!)Ruby was unconventional for those times..but the truth was that she was born into a middle class Baptist family in London. Her Dad was a bank clerk. She attended morning and evening services as a child. After leaving school, she worked for the Pearl Insurance Company for 9 years.Due to her non-attendance of church she was evicted from her parents home. She eventually found her way to NZ. Hardly the background of a Romany gypsy..Good legend though!!

thanks anna,

I love family legends too don't you?
I have come across quite a few in the last couple of weeks. I'm sure half of them are started by the person themselves to 'tease' grandchildren or whoever and passed down with 'a little extra' added through the years

makes for interesting research :)

I met years ago Ruby and Martina in Estonia. I remember clearly Ruby`s beautiful pink dress! We are relatives! My great-grandfather was Henn Anso.
