my daughter-in-law has been looking for her half brother for many years

all she remembers is that her dad's name was raymond nolan miles, born in colorado around 1943 and died about 1965 and all she knows about her half brother is that his first name started with an L. I"m on Family Search and it doesn't go any younger than 1940. Anybody have any ideas.

Was 'L' older or younger than your daughter-in-law?
Who told her about him? Maybe they also know the mother's name. Try and get an approximate birthdate. If Raymond Miles was born and died in Colorado chances are 'L' was born there too. Not an easy task for you. Perhaps someone will see this. Good luck
