My name is edf and I am the G.G.Grandson of Josiah Fletcher b.1816 and Anne (Bird) Fletcher, married 1836 in Manchester

Journal by edf

I would be very interested if anyone has information that would confirm that my G.G.G. Grandfather was indeed John Fletcher and my G.G.G. Grandmother was Mary Fletcher (maiden name Foden, previously married to Josiah Fletcher(victualler of old hall)..who sadly died of fever in 1811. Josiah and Mary had a daughter, Martha Fletcher b. 1806, whom I believe was my G.G. Grandfather Josiah Fletcher b. 1816, step sister. Martha married John Ralphs in 1832 and John Ralphs joined my G.G. Grandparents in Port Phillip Bay Australia in 1842 and to my knowledge Martha remained in England, I would be very interested if anyone has any history regarding Martha (Fletcher) Ralphs and also information about my G.G. Grandmother Anne (Bird) Fletcher who was remarried to George Hall (ex convict) in 1845 after my G.G. Grandfather Josiah Fletcher tragically drowned at Merri Creek Victoria in 1845, George Hall died approximately 5 years later and Anne my G.G. Grandmother seems to have vanished ? Did she go back to England or did she re-marry and move to another state ?

Hi lynda1, I have documents relating to Martha Fletcher, whose father was Josiah and mother was Mary Foden and a copy of Josiah's and Ann's marriage, which has no family information on the document apart from Martha (Fletcher) Ralphs was a witness of the marraige, but because Josiah senior died aged 34 years of fever, I can't find the family link between our G.G. Grandfather Josiah and Martha, may have been cousins, I am not sure
I do know from other research that Josiah Fletcher's father our G.G.G. Grandfather was most likely William Fletcher christened in 1769 and his fathers name was John Fletcher and mother was Susannah, I an still researching to confirm this and will keep you in the loop
I have confirmation that Ann (Bird) Fletcher Hall was not buried in the Jerilderie cemetery and am still waiting to hear back regarding the Urana cemetery but my guess is she is buried at Docklands (Vic) at the old St Jame's Church cemetery.. maybe even alongside Josiah if you live nearby can you check this.. if possible ??

Caroline Hall m Thomas Cawthorne 1865.I think we might at least find out something.

Linda1, I agree that Caroline is a good place to further investigate Ann's later life and possible whereabouts, also for you info Ann isn't buried at Urana NSW, I should have known that because I don't think that Edmund was close to Ann (his mother) after the property dispute (Josiah's house) in Brunswick......edf

Hi Lynda1 not sure I responded to your request re Margaret's maiden name, it was O'Brien, if you have any information regarding Margaret I would be greatfull.

Margaret was a house maid at a station in NSW and Edmund was a stockman at the same station, they were married in Albury NSW in 1861

Hi Edf. I had lots to tell you about "John O'Brien' when living Albury. But looked closer at information. It was the name he had used when writing article.-So he wasn't a O'Brien at all. Sorry.Lynda

Hi lynda1
The further I looked into William Fletcher born 1st Nov-1767 and Susannah Fletcher being the parents of Josiah Fletcher b: 1816 d: 1845 (wife Ann Bird) the more I don't believe they were as they would have been to old...sorry I may have given you a false lead and will need to keep looking edf
