Nicholson of Alabama and Georgia

Journal by LeDora

My grandfather is Edward Hezekiah Nicholson. I have a copy of a 1910 Census record where he lived in Foley and Magnolia Springs and Baldwin Alabama, he was 6 years old. His father was a clergyman named Louis L Nicholson who was born in Georgia and his father was born in Union Co. Georgia. He was one of 13 sons. He died and was buried in a Military Cemetary in Richmond VA in 1862. I have a lot more information on my grandfather...his brothers and sisters names.

Hi LeDora,
I see its been awhile since you have posted anything. I hope you are well and still researching. In your family stories do you have anything that sounds like this:

family story goes: William Nicholson was a plantation owner who was very wealthy and had lots of slaves. Charles Roberts mother was cared for by a Negro lady who had a baby about the same timethe mammy nursed both babies? The mammy took care of Charles Robert. Her son kept dunking Charles and Charles hit the son with a rock and killed him. The mammy spanked Charles with a fish. Soon after Charles was sent to a juvenile correction school in Preble County, Ohio. The school records record William as father and Martha or Minerva as mother. He was 11 years old (about 1878) and was released at 18 years (about 1885). He was released to a Mr. Reelhorn and was indentured to work for Mr. Reelhorn in Ohio.

Charles Robert is my ggrandfather. Born, about Feb 27 1867, maybe in Indianapolis, Marion, Indiana. I can locate and track him pretty much from his marriage to Cora Charlotte Arledge in 1892 in Johnson County, Wyoming.

I sure would appreciate any help. Thanks, Barb

I'm sorry, This doesn't ring any bells with me. I wish I could help. Good luck in your search! I have tracked a lot of Nicholsons since I posted this. All the way to England. The family I have were Quakers. They started out in New Jersey then North Carolina, Alabama, Virginia and Indiana. I need to find out more, I can't wait!

Thanks,
LeDora Calvert
