On the Hunt for Ancestors.

Journal by suziq

The search for ancestors has taken me from Va., Tennessee, Alabama, Arkansas, and yes, even Ireland. They came from all corners of the U.S.A. and Ireland, where my G/Grandfather BRADLEY settled in Washington County Arkansas. Unfortunately the earliest record I have found on him is his 1861 marriage to Harriet Jane STOUT. They through the years traveled ever onward from the east, westward until the SHELTONS reached the areas around Waco, Texas in the 1850's, then upward into Oklahoma circa 1900. The COLES & ROBERTS from Kentucky traveled into Illinois, Franklin County, then they too went up into Washington County, Arkansas and Grayson County Texas.. The SAWYERS came from Virginia to Scott County Illinois, then Washington County Arkansas. Around 1880-1900 they also made their way into the lower Oklahoma counties of Bryan, Choctaw, and Atoka. This seems to be where all my ancestors ended up eventually. Which made my search easier as most could be found in the marriage and census records, and land records. It would appear the Indian Rolls seem to have been the reason for the exodus to Oklahoma, although I have never found any of them on the rolls, much to my chagrin. I have a lot of information on my family lines, but am ever hopeful of finding more to add to my lineage.
