If you had ancestors arrive on this steamer your help would be appreciated. They appear to have first arrived into Port Chalmers, Otago but not all disembarked there, some settling in the North Island. Not known yet which passengers disembarked where
- some added info is tentative and not yet confirmed
- names are spelt as found which may not be correct as you know them

some names from the ss TAINUI PASSENGER LIST - 14 September 1886

s.s. TAINUI 5200 tons, Barlow, R.N.R., left Plymouth, England August 14, via Teneriffe, she called at Madiera on Aug 17, Capetown on Sept 3 and Hobart. - B. and N.Z.M. and A. Co., agents. The pasage occupied 43 days 1 hour and though uneventful was very enjoyable to all

- the Rev Mr Leighton, the new Incumbent of Christ Church, appears to have first arrived in NZ in May 1874 by the s.s. Alhambra. He spent most of his time in Nelson but lectured and preached all over NZ. In Nov 1888 this ad appeared in the Nelson paper the 'Colonist' - FOR SALE, Town section 507, fronting Bronti street and Brook street Stream, with Dwelling House and good Orchard, formerly in occupation of Rev Mr Leighton. Price 850 (2012 equivalent of $167,000). There was a Mrs Leighton

Hi,
I believe Mr & Mrs W Shermon (passenger list The Star 14 September 1886 and shown in text as Shennan Sheanan or Shermon) were actually Watson Shennan & his bride Grace Burnet, married 17 June 1885 Half Morton Manse Dumfriesshire Scotland, headed for the South Island, most likely Dunedin, and ultimately Puketoi Station, Otago.

Hello Ngairedith There are records of TWOMEY buried at Mangatainoka, Pahiatua. Daniel George Twomey d.7.7.1890 0.7yrs David Twomey b.1858 d.1934.
Daniel Denis Twomey b.1898 d.1986. May or may not be some connection.
