A list of the passengers on the ship NORTHERN MONARCH which sailed from Plymouth 31 October 1878, arriving in Lyttelton, Christchurch 1 February 1879.
There were 348 Government Assisted Immigrants for Timaru & Christchurch (although that number differs on each report)

The Northern Monarch was wrecked Nov 1903 on her 3rd voyage to New Zealand

Pat became a general surgeon at Christchurch Hospital & much more)

* these were 3 of the 5 children of Jeremiah Cotter & Ellen Sullivan of Bantry, County Cork. Their father died in 1865 and their mother remarried to Denis McGrath & had 3 other children. They also travelled on this voyage (see them below)

She may have remarried after his death)

NOTES
* this family was the widowed Mrs Gledstanes & children who settled in Katikati. Her husband was Robert Hornidge Gledstanes, Esq., J.P., of Twickenham, Kings County who died prior to their leaving
* at his wedding, Edward George Gledstanes was reported as the 4th son of the late Robert Hornidge Gledstanes
* Mary died 31 December 1919 & is buried Anglican Block A plot 53 at Katikati cemetery

He married Sophia Hamilton Edmonds (1870-1958) 2 Jan 1895 in Hamiltons, Waipiata & had 9 sons & a daughter. He died aged 64 in Rakaia

Ellen's husband Jeremiah died 28 Sep 1865 in Bantry and Ellen remarried to Denis McGrath about 3 years later
