- her father Abraham Hort was a leading member of the Wellington Jewish community but she became an ardent Christian.
- she married Francis Dillon BELL (1822-1898) in 1849, politician and Quaker. He served as New Zealand's third Minister of Finance (the first parliamentary finance minister), and later as its third Speaker of the House. The town of Bell Block near New Plymouth on land Bell bought from the Puketapu iwi in 1849 is named after him, as is Bell Street, Whanganui. Bell's son, Francis Henry Dillon Bell, became the first New Zealand born Prime Minister in 1925.

You have done so much work Ngaire. I do searches everyday, and your name always comes up. You are such a "taonga" to the work of Genealogy in Aotearoa. I was raised as a Maori, and am enjoying finding all my Pakeha roots; and Im always amazed to see your name come up all the time ! Thank you.

ps: Im looking for Frederick Unwin's business partner, Henry A.Solomon; they owned the Otaki Mail together, along with Frank Peun or Penn, probably Penn. hence my visit to this page. Solomon sounded Jewish to me.
