"Points? Quality instead of Quanity"

Journal by 1bobbylee

Seems to me that a huge quanity of points could possibly turn into a personal ego trip.

Please let me encourage the knowledgeable, experienced, well qualified in research, the historians, the genealogists to continue their tremendous help in assisting me to locate my ancestors and descendants. These wonderful people know who they are. Their journals have opened many doors for members who need you. I believe I can truthfully say that FamilyTreeCircles need you.

A well written, factual research journal about certain family, person, or area has sparked a familiarity that has led to members finding their ancestors.

All of our members, and I mean all, should contribute in journals. You may think, "I don't know what to say." "Write what you are thinking." Some member may very well pick it up and help you.

Do you have a story to share with members about a personal family member. An Aunt, An Uncle, Granpa, Granma. Please, give us the story! It's not all about dates, countries, deeds, wills, birth or death certificates. Of course these are very important when researching for an ancestor. Give as much information as you can.

Write from your memories. Write from your heart. Make us laugh, or shed a tear. What is more enjoyable than a human interest story?

Can the points! Abolish them! The points are empty anyway.

Let us concentrate on quality instead of quanity.

Well said.

My view is the 'majority' of people come in here only once or twice for the specific reason of obtaining information.
If they don't get it here they try somewhere else.
They don't want points they want answers.

That leaves a 'minority' in here who try to provide those answers.

We would all like to get on with it without tripping over the kid's toys.

That minority you speak about is doing a fantastic job. I am sure it is tiring with so few. From what I've seen, that minority, I'm sure, gain much satisfaction from helping others. I appreciate you all...
Please don't burn yourselves out. I need you.

I remember back about 4 or 5 years Scott gave away Amazon Books gift vouchers for the journal of the month. Maybe we could get him to lash out again if we promise to be good.

The question is, Who chooses a journal to receive the Amazon Books gift vouchers? I would think a small committee of office managers at the home office would be needed to vote. There are so many journals. People and time would be needed to screen them. I have seen many journals that would qualify for appraisal. Possibly two or three FamilyTreeCircle members can be included in the selection process. I think It has to be structured in such a way that the owner of the site should make the final decision. And afterwards, no crying or resentfulness. Let the Boss have the last word and responsibility.

What can be more comforting that to be alone quietly reading a good book? What do you think about my thoughts Janilye and others?

I think that janilye will start a lending library of all the books she wins and we can borrow them from her by paying the postage fees (which is only fair)

This will be extra time taxed upon Janilye. Hey, We have hundreds and hundreds of members. Please don't let it take her away from providing informative journals to our members. When she gets on an ancestral trail, she is like a beautiful dog in motion. She will stay on the trail until she has the valuable information caught.

I am wanting to read the book, "Travels with Charlie" by John Steinbeck. If you win this one Jan, I may have to ask for credit on the postage. You in Australia and I in a small town in USA North Carolina. Put my name on list. Don't forget me....
