Hello sanston5 - you are on the right track - Go to website - familysearch.org Click on IGI ( International etc' ) In surname put richard cole - leave out the M. -- Region --> north america -- country --> united states -- county --> North carolina . Richard is there , wife & 9 children . Next -- Take out the richard & leave just the surname -- click -->search up will come hundreds of coles > You need to research them - each time go back from the 1st child's birthday approx' 20 to 25 years to try and find the next generation. Or you can click on --> Ancestral file < and try to follow the coding ( the first ( 6 ) letters is usually the follow on but they do change so be careful - Okey Dokey -- just scramble your way in among the world of ancestry . Some time in the future we would like you to come back to this website with a journal . Oh !! -- and i nearly forgot _ don't forget to assist someone else on this website. one day if you can. --- call on your experiences - GO ! Go! Go ! Regards - edmondsallan
