Researching Ireland

Article by mainegenes

I have some Irish ancestors who came to the United States sometime in the 1820s. I haven't found any good way of researching them online. I know the town they came lived in and have found information on the town and now I'm looking for places to find records of their time in Ireland. I would love to hear from anyone who has had success researching Irish roots online. My ancestors were Protestant which seems to be an additional challenge.

I have information on 3 surnames... Carroll, Standish & Reed. Most seemed to be from Tipperary and Armagh counties. Most came over to Canada in 1810 and 1822. One surname settled around New Brunswick and the other two in Halton County (now Mississauga ON Canada). I have had success in using Tribal pages, Ireland Genealogy Projects & RootsWeb. Try Googling the surnames to see what you can get. I have also had success with Find-A-Grave. If I can help further let me know.
