hi anne,

John came to New Zealand with Her Majesty's 65th Regiment as Colonel Sergeant & Paymaster. This should make him a little easier to 'follow back'.
He died in Wanganui 22 Decemeber 1873 aged 57 which is a birth year of 1816

Hello Anne,
John Joseph was not a colonel sergeant but a Colour sergeant and paymaster. He was discharged with a pension from the army on the 01/August 1859 to reside in Wanganui.
I have also tried to get help from Kew England with no result.I'm sure there is an interesting story to be found.

thanks for all the comments...i am still looking for John Joseph I believe he lied about his age when he joined the 65th regiment, so that would put him as being born between 1816 and 1823. I have been in contact with Father Oreilly from St finbarrs church Ireland, in order for me to go forward he requires JJ's fathers name keep searching
