5th AUGUST 1896 - WEDDING AT WOODLAND
* ... A very pretty wedding was celebrated at the house of Mr Enos Dewe, Woodlands, Southland, on the 5th inst., the Rev. Evan Bissett officiating. A large number of guests were present at the marriage ceremony, which took place at 1.30. The bridegroom, Mr Dennis Tuffley, of Clinton and the bride, Miss Jane Dewe, is the third daughter of Mr Enos Dewe, of Woodlands, Southland. After the marriage the health of the bride and bridegroom was toasted, after which the guests retired to the dining room to partake of the excellet wedding breakfast which was prepared for them. Miss Lucy Wyeth was the bridemaid and Mr George Dewe (brother of the bride) best man.
The bride was dressed in a lovely light blue cashmere trimmed with fawn lace and brown silk, and looked very charming in her veil and a lovely wreath of orange blossoms. The happy couple left by the evening train, amid showers of rice, for Clinton, where they went to spend their honeymoon.
Mrs E. Dewe, mother of the bride, wore a pretty light dress; Miss Bessie Dewe, a maroon cloth trimmed with beaver fur; Miss Wyeth, pink nuns' veiling trimmed with white lace; Mrs M. Leith, grenadine trimmed with black jet; Mrs Branks, maroon cashmere trimmed with black velvet; Mrs Walker, grey tweed; Mrs Tait, dark costume; *Mrs J. Mathieson, navy blue figured serge skirt with pink blouse; Miss Stimpson, dary navy blue with white Liberty silk from; Miss E. Crapper, black cashmere with pink yoke trimmed with pale ecru lace
*Mrs J. Mathieson was Mary nee Dewe who married John Mathieson in 1896 & had 5 children. She next married Edward Tuffley in 1910 & had 2 daughters (see Hilda May Tuffley above who married Charles Edward Tuffley)
