A young man, Mr Robert Mutton, had a lucky escape from serious injury to-day. He was up a 50ft pine tree, which had been partly chopped through, and was engaged in fixing a rope to the tree when it fell, severly bruising him.

The Mock Court, composed of members of the Auckland Travellers' Association opened its sittings in Te Puke with all due solemnity on Wednesday afternoon. Punctually at 2.30 the learned judge, in wig and gown, took his seat for the purpose of meting out justice to wrongdoers. Two tall bewhiskered policemen scoured the street for delinquents, and as each criminal was dragged before His Honor the Judge, peals of delight went up from the onlookers, who were apparently quite unaware that their quiet little town held such a large proportion of criminals.

Mr Robert Saunders Mutton, who died in Auckland, aged 51 years, was buried at Te Puke to-day, the funeral being very largely attended. Mr Mutton, who was born in London, came to New Zealand as a young man and had occupied the position of secretary to the Bay of Plenty Dairy Association for the past 19 years. His close and unremitting attention to his duties and devotion to the interests of the suppliers and the factory made him extremely popular in the district and the news of his death was received with deep regret. Mr Mutton had been in indifferent health for some years past and underwent an operation on Saturday from which he failed to recover. He Leaves a widow and six children
