Ryans of County Tipperary

Journal by teddyryan

Hi I'm Teddy and I'm a Canuck. That means I'm a Canadian, although having been born a Newfoundlander, that's questionable. I currently live in Alberta. My parents were Ryans on my father's side and Ryalls on my mother's. We've very few details, for some weird twist of fate, my grandparents and rellies on both sides died young and we didn't have a whole lot of details to go on for researching genealogy. That's why it would be very wonderful if someone out there had some information to share. My father's family came from Ireland and from what I've learned about Ryans immigrating, they all hailed from Tipperary?? My great grandfather (John??) ended up in St. John's, Newfoundland and may have detoured on his way to Newfoundland by way of Prince Edward Island, Canada.

They had engineering backgrounds and my grandfather became the 1st City Engineer of St. John's, as did his son, (the 2nd City Engineer of St. John's) and my father Edward, worked in Engineering in City Hall in St. John's as well.

On my mother's side, the Ryalls were apparantly from Cornwall, England. Her father was Will Ryall,(wife Maude) he was the choirmaster of St. John the Baptist Basilica in St. John's, and caretaker of Government House (pariliament of Newfoundland at the time), where he and his 8 children including my mother lived in the basement appartment. We have very few details, just enough to be dangerous:) Any help from anyone researching Ryans or Ryalls would be a great help. Thanks in advance and looking forward to discussions!
