Sarah Lay of TN

Journal by diankeller

looking for parents or siblings of Sarah Lay b 11/14/1861 d 1899 of TB. I believe she was an orphan and she roomed as a boarder of the Marshall family of Obion County, TN (near Reelfoot Lake area). She taught school for a while. She married my great-grandfather George Washington Cunningham (also an orphan who boarded with the Marshall family) on 10/21/1886. She spoke of a Malinda and a Tennessee A Lay (females) who may have been her sisters. It is possible that they boarded with other families TN (Tarkingtons?) or MO, not sure. Both Sarah Lay and George Washington Cunningham died of TB in 1890s. Malinda did come to visit her at least once between 1890-1899.

quick correction - George Washington Cunningham was NOT an orphan boarding with the Marshall family, but his and Sarah's son, Mose Marshall Cunningham b 1890, boarded with the Marshall family after his parents died of TB.
