Journal by allycat

William KRAUSS born 1834 Schmalkalder, Germany, Occupation: Farmer, emigrated sometime to Australia, died 12 Sep 1898 Lambs Valley, Glen Innes NSW Australia. He first married in 1856 Margaret (or Margaretta) Elizabeth KNAUFF born 1833 Schmalkalder, Germany died 1879 Wellingrove NSW Australia, the daughter of John KNAUFF and Anne Elizabeth SHARPE.

This family has indeed been very difficult to research, but I have found the following children (possibly there were more):-

1.George Arthur KRAUSS born 1859 died 1912 married 1882 Glen Innes NSW to Elizabeth E. HOBBS. This couple had one known child; Hannah Elizabeth KRAUSS born 30 Dec 1889 Glen Innes and she married 1909 Glen Innes NSW Francis ADAMS.

2.Louisa (Louise / Loise) Christina KRAUSS born 19 Apr 1865 Glen Innes NSW Australia died 1884 Glen Innes NSW.

3.Hannah Elizabeth KRAUSS born 12 May 1867 Glen Innes NSW Australia married 31 May 1890 Edward DONNELLY.

4.Ranehart` KRAUSS born 1869 Wellingrove NSW died 1939 Inverell NSW married 1898 Inverell NSW Lina* (Lena) BRAZIER who was born abt 1884 died 1964 Inverell. Note*: Lina was the daughter of William BRAZIER and Mary (Marie) Broser MOIST. More about this family appears in my journals on the MOST family from Germany (my ancestors). Note`: Ranehart KRAUSS' first name appears recorded as Rined, Rinard, Reynard, Reinhardt, and even Rinchart!
Ranehart & Lina KRAUSS had I think 6 children;

(i) Alice M. KRAUSS born 1898 Inverell NSW
married 1921 Emmaville NSW Albert G. LEWIS 1891-1961 son of David William B. LEWIS and Sarah Louisa BATESON;
(ii) Ethel Elizabeth KRAUSS born 1900 Inverell NSW
married 1921 Glen Innes NSW Arnold Thomas FOSTER;
(iii) Arthur G. KRAUSS born 1902 Glen Innes NSW;
(iv) John William KRAUSS 1905-1965 Inverell NSW
(v) Colin Henry KRAUSS born 1907 Warialda NSW died 1951 Inverell NSW
(vi) Living male KRAUSS married living female MARCHANT.

5.Elizabeth Margaret KRAUSS born 22 Apr 1872 Wellingrove NSW died 1891 Inverell NSW.

6.Augusta KRAUSS born 19 Jan 1876 Wellingrove, died 1876 Wellingrove NSW.

After William KRAUSS' first wife Margaret Elizabeth KNAUFF passed away in 1879 he married again in Grafton NSW on 22 Sep 1881 to Elizbeth PAULUS born 3 Nov 1839 Viermunden, Hessen, Prussia died 5 Mar 1917 Glen Innes NSW. She was the daughter of Konrad PAULUS 1805-1869 of Viermunden and Anna Katharina MUELLER 1809-1881 of Frankenberg, Hessen.

This couple had two children:-

1.Henry Ernest KRAUSS 1882-1883 Glen Innes NSW
2.Alice May KRAUSS born 28 Aug 1887 Glen Innes died 22 Apr 1925 Glen Innes. Alice married 1 Nov 1906 Glen Innes to Edward Herbert RUSHBOURNE (Rusbourne) and had a large family of 10 children (have all their names). Spousal surnames of children: AUSTIN, CAVE, ARCHER, COLLYER, SUTTON, NEWSOME, MERTON, TOFT, BRINDLEY and BRADFORD.

NB The KRAUS surname is prevalent in the State of Queensland between 1829 and 1914. It's possible that there are familial connections with the surname changed slightly.

I am descended from George Arthur Kraus and Elizabeth Hobbs. I wish to make contact with other members of the Kraus/Knauf family. I have a photograph of a couple probably taken in the late 1800's and wish to identify if this is William Kraus and his second wife. Have found it difficult to make contact up to this time.

Dear Maureen, Welcome. I did have details on William KRAUSS' second wife as I have the PAULUS ancestry in my family tree file to the 15th Century.

FamilyTreeCircles has the capacity for users to attach .jpg files to journals.

The internet works this way - if the more journals you write the more you flood the world wide web with your KRAUSS information and increase the possiblity of somebody out there googling KRAUSS and finding your information and then contacting you.

Regards,
Alison

Alison

We are decsended from William Krauss also, through his daughter Hannah Elizabeth, who married Edward Donnelly. We have a reasonable bit of information about William, including details of land, occupation, emmigration and naturalisation.

We have recorded that William & Margretta had 10 children and have information on many of their descendants.

Dear Alison
I was re-reading your entry for the Krauss family and note you don't memtion a ship of arrival. Both the Krauss and Knauf families arrived on the "Fanny Kirschner" on 1st March 1858 to Sydney.
(on Naturalisation papers).

We know of another child of George Arthur Grob and Elizabeth Hobbs, she was Rose who married John Henry Donnelly, and they had two children that we know of.

Elizabeth Paulus was previously married to Johannes Berger and they had 10 children. Johannes died in 1879.
We also hold land details, Land occupation details and obituaries, as well as photo's of JH Knauf (Furracabad), and John Krauss, among other things.

I am a direct descendant of the Krauss family and have a lot of family info as well as pics - They are still surviving in strong numbers in the n.s.w. town of Ashford. My great grandfather was Reynard (that name and spelling has been verified by 95 yr old Vera Krauss wife of the late Clarence Krauss) The true story regarding Lena Brazier is very tragic she was the victim of rape and left pregnant - I don't want to elaborate on this issue although I have it on the word of a witness who was there at the time - the graves are located on private property at Ashford - Ashford cemetery has its own row dedicated to the Krauss family. I don't have a picture of Reynard according to my aunty he was very short in stature.
