Thanks for that

As you say Frederick William Comyns (1822-1900) married Rhoda CROWE (1851-1916) daughter of Thomas CROWE & Elizabeth Ann TUNBRIDGE. And
he and 3 others started a Flax Mill about 1865 near Konini Creek
My wife is also descended from Thomas Crowe via Rhoda's sister Hannah (and of course we have info on that branch if anyone wants it). From what i can find it seems that Rhoda probably appears in the English census as Jane, soon after birth, while Hannah appears in the NZ registry as Harriet, even though she already had a surviving sister of that name. (Also George seems to have been buried as Daniel)

I believe Thomas brought a share in the mill from one of the founders but it went bust soon after due to a spoiled shipment and falling prices. Coincidentally (we have just discovered after 30 years!) my own ancestor Thomas Woodfield was another of the founding partners. Rhoda's father, Thomas Crowe, and two of her brothers appear in the the 1903 Cyclopedia of NZ. Like Woodfield they seem to have been active Oddfellows.
