Sydney Thomas Parrish

Query by JohnGParrish

My grandfather was born March 1883 in Lambeth, Surrey UK, married Muriel Dean Dec. 1903, had three children (Iris, Leslie and Gladys) then "vanished". I am trying to locate him. I suspect he died in Leeds UK in 1939.

I will help others with any information, etc as I have plenty of spare time.

He is in the UK 1911 census with his parents Thomas & Elizabeth at 96 Ridley Road, Forest Gate E, West Ham. Not sure if that is any help to you. I think you are correct on the death, the only one I could find was 1939 Leeds, Q4 9B 362 aged 56

Many thanks for your information. In 1911 he would have been 28yo...does that agree (approx.) with what's on the Census data? According to my sketchy data Sydney should have been with his wife and children(2) in a household with the Dean family (Ponsford Dean) as head and Florence Dean as the wife.

Again thankyou

Thanks asheppard, that confirms a lot of my data. I have been using FreeBMD/FreeCEN, but they have not seemingly got all the data you have.. what /where did you use to find this information??

The Census are on findmypast & ancestry both subscription sites.

Murielle Dean's birth is on Freebmd, it might be worthwhile getting a copy of her marriage to Sydney to verify it's the right Murielle.

Births Dec 1884 (>99%)
Dean Murielle Lancaster 8e 730

also found this baptism for Murielle

Lancashire, England, Births and Baptisms, 1813-1911 about Murielle Dean
Name: Murielle Dean
Baptism Date: 1 Jan 1885
Parish: Lancaster, St Thomas
Father: Frederick Ponsford Dean
Mother: Florence Emma Marion Dean
Reference Number: Pr 3269/1/2

address is 17 Great John Street, Frederick's occupation Professor of Music

I was unable to locate Frederick & Florence Dean's marriage but they may not have been married in UK.

This could possibly be Frederick and Florence's deaths

Dean Florence E M 77 Romford 4a 349

Thanks again for your help.
I am considering a subscription to Ancestry.com, do you feel they are better than the rest ??
Frederick and Florence (I am lead to believe) were married in Wales. They had a "Music Hall" there for many years.

Does the Death record indicate Florence Dean's maiden name ?

I can't help with subscription advise it's purely a personal choice.

Information on the deaths will be on the certificate, FreeBMD only gives you references to order certificate.

The death certificates may give more clues to marriage other children, residence etc.

I've just come across this death, another possibility same approx year of birth as 1939 Sydney Parrish

Deaths Mar 1947 (>99%)
Parrish Sidney T 64 Pancras 5d 576

It is possible that there are two Sydney T Parrish's

as there is a marriage in 1932
Sydney T Parrish to Nellie Maycock.

The marriage to Nellie Maycock is interesting as I can find no Divorce "evidence" to his previous wife Muriel (Dean) Parrish. Another correspondent found a 1911 Census record of STP living in his family home, without wife or children. He has a younger sister Edith Mary. I am in the process of sending "snail mail" to the current residents of the Parrish home, to see what happens.

As the Death Records and Age at Death tally well with a Birth date of 1883, I suspect there might be "twins". The spelling differences could be significant.

Is there an 2011/12 Electroal Roll of London available on the 'net ?

Thanks for your help.

John
