Te WHITIATARA block - Norsewood Land Ballot - 19 June 1912

NORSEWOOD is situated east of the Ruahine Mountain range and is located 20 kilometres northeast of Dannevirke. Norsewood was founded by Scandinavian settlers in 1872 as a loggers settlement


Norsewood-Te Whiti settlement (the correct name is Te Whiti-atara) was bought from the Maori by the Government, surveyed into sections and balloted for, on the 19th June 1912

... A ballot was held at Norsewood today for 17 sections of the Te Whititara block.
There were 395 applications, the sections ranging from 64 acres to 100 acres.
