the 7.8 Napier Earthquake occurred 3 February 1931:
the LIST of the NAPIER EARTHQUAKE victims which does not list any PULLEY deaths
NOTE - there was a Charles Pulley who lived at 205 Childers Rd, Gisborne in the early 1900s (at least to 1920). He was a Contractor in the area and also carried out construction contracts on the wharves in Wellington, concrete moles in Patea, training walls at Wairoa after the 1914 floods when he and the Engineer, Leslie Reynolds were out constantly in the driving gale and rains and a huge concrete construction of a reclamation wall at Thorndon. He WAS in Napeir in 1930 during the Napier Harbour Dispute. More research would need to be done on this Charles to see if he is the Charles Pulley above

Re Charles PULLEY.
According to his grandaughter, Charles Francis PULLEY, son of George Phipps PULLEY, founded an engineering business, C.F. Pulley and Co Ltd and was instrumental in building a number of sea walls and bridges around the country. The most prominent sea wall he built was at Thornton in the Wellington Harbour.
From the Electoral roles, Charles Francis lived in:
Wellington East, Hawkes Bay (1914), Patea (1919) and various parts of
Wellington. He died in 1948. I think this is the Charles Pulley contractor mentioned in the previous information.
There is another Charles Pulley in the electoral rolls who was living in Gisborne in 1928 and 1935 - the same time as Charles Francis was living in Wellington. This is likely to be the one who is buried in Gisborne.
Further information on George Phipps PULLEY's parents and descendants. The family name that carries through is OLDAKER (with various spellings).
Frances' mother was Mary Elizabeth MCGIFFERT.
