The Messier Family and Other Connections!

Journal by CCrosthwaite54

My father, Charles W. MESSIER was born in Willimantic, CT, 11 Sept. 1927 to David MACHA and M. Malvina CLAING. He died 17 May 2006 in Coventry, CT. He was one of 13 children born to David & Malvina. Two sisters and a brother are still living.

David was the s/o George MESSIER AKA MACIA AKA MACHA and Marie Philomene BROUSSEAU. George was a veteran of the Civil War which he enlisted into from the state of Vermont. He and Philomene married in MA. David was one of 16 children born to this couple. A daughter, Marie Auxilla MACHIE b. & bapt. in 1879 in Fall River, MA. M. Auxilla AKA Ozelia married Joseph H. Perkins (b. 1872 in Niantic, CT, d. 1941 in New London, CT) 18 February 1895 in East Lyme, CT. This couple had at least 10 children. Their 1st daughter was Cora Rose Perkins. Cora married her 1st cousin, Joseph Edmond MESSIER (s/o George E. MESSIER brother of M. Auxilla and Rosalie DELUDE). Cora and Joseph had at least 3 children...Virginia, Nelson and Chester.

I have quite a bit of information about these families, especially George MESSIER b. 1840 in Canada, Marie Philomene BROUSSEAU (his 1st wife) and her family. I also have information on the CLAING family.

I have researched these families for many years, tracking them from Europe to Canada to the United States.

I would love to hear from anyone researching these families and any connections to them.

Hello Charlotte - sorry I could not answer you right away. I was just trying to find the previous letter you sent to me and I cannot find it anywhere here. Oh well - let's see what I remember.

You did mention that you would take a picture of Celia Andert's headstone at B'nai Israel Cemetery for me. I sure would appreciate that! Would you mind buying a roll of film and taking a few more pics in the same cemetery? There is another person there by the name of Ogushowitz. Not sure if it is only Jack or other relative also. How about I reimburse you for a roll of film and your time also? And if you would like, just send me the film to develop here. And of course I will pay you for postage, etc. I don't expect you to spend your money on my stuff. Please say you will accept the money, please. Besides the photo I want I will scan them and put them on www.findagrave.com. They have taken some pics for me in New England and I take some for others here in NC as a token of good will and so others might have pics of headstones they may be looking for.

I believe you were telling me about digging thru the old records. I like it also. This is the only time I have ever enjoyed history in my life! All through school I hated it because from the first grade on it was just rote memory and boring to me. Well - that sure has changed now!! It's become a whole lot more personal. I find I am spending a lot of time doing family history on the computer and in the library. I have been described as very much like a dog with a bone. I will not put it down until I am done with it and have found my answers. I call it just plain stubborn and very, very inquisitive.

I'm having one heck of a time trying to locate the Andert/Altschuler family though. They were my ex-husbands grandparents who were Russian Jews that immigrated to NY, NY and then to Eastford, CT. I have gone all thru the Ellis Island List and now I have to really analyse it because I have no idea of when they came here, if they were married here or in Russia, etc, etc. I have gone thru JewishGen.org and have not found anything concrete yet. I did have one response from a gentlemen who was from Israel that said he would see what he could do from there. I did hear from the Ogushowitz Family in Willimantic and they said they would talk to the Rabbi at the synogogue, but no response there either. Meanwhile I have sent to the town of Eastford for all and any kind of birth, death and any other kinds of paper I could get from them. I did get a response from them and I'm waiting to see just how much it's going to cost to get the copies and how much the total is going to be. I just hope Celia Andert's death certificate can tell me something.

I have been in contact with a John Machie (not my brother) that has just moved to Phoenix. I don't know who he is, but he told me last year to get in touch with you for info about the Machie family. He did tell me he has legal rights to the 'Machie.com' and 'Machie.org' domains. That's ok because I now have a site called 'MachieFamily.com'. When I go to my daughters's wedding in SanDiego, she is going to help me set it up!!! I really want a site that people can go to and I also want to publish a book once I get information from everyone. At the rate I am getting information, I hope I live long enough to publish a book!!! Sure, everyone wants to have a book done, but no one wants to take the time to send me their children's birthdays etc!!

Did I ever send you a link to the family pictures that I have online? If I did not, and if you want to see them, just let me know.

Do you have any pictures and/or documents that you can share with me? I too would love to have them. Let me know what I can send you you also. did you get my invitation to the family tree at www.Geni.com? It is a free site and makes a pretty good tree for the family.

I had better scoot - getting late - 2:30am here.

Write soon -
