STRICKLAND - DAVIS-GOFF

... A very pretty wedding was celebrated at St Joseph's Church, Picton on August 15th, 1916, when Miss Madeline Mary Davis-Goff, second daughter of *Mrs H. Condon, of Picton, was united in marriage to Mr Leonard Robert Strickland, only son of Mr and Mrs Strickland, of Blenheim. The bride, who was given away by her step-father, wore a dress of frosted silk embroidered voile, and the usual veil was tastefully arranged under a crown of orange blossoms. She also carried a bouquet of maidenhair and asparagus fern with camellias, snowdrops, and lilies. The bride was attended by *Miss Crissie Ivamy (Christine Annie), chief bridesmaid, who wore a pretty cream dress trimmed with lace and silk, and a hat to match, trimmed with orange ribbon. She also carried a white bouquet with orange streamers.
The assisting bridesmaid, Miss Muriel Fairhall, wore a pale blue crepe-de-chene dress with a pretty apricot hat, and carried a white bouquet with streamers.
Private George Davis-Goff (who was on his final leave) acted as best man, and Mr James Davis-Goff acted as groomsman (both brothers of the bride).
The Rev Father Herring performed the rites of holy matrimony; and the strains of the "Wedding March" played by Miss L. Fuller.
After the ceremony the guests were entertained at the residence of the bride's parents, where the usual toasts were proposed and responded to.
The bridegroom's present to the bride was a handsome sealskin coat, and to the bridesmaids gold brooches set with rubies.
The happy couple left for the North Island, where the honeymoon is being spent
