The Wetherells of Rockton and Rockford, Illinois
I am researching the family who lived in Rockton, Winnebago Co. Ill. first appearing in the U.S. census in 1870 as Samuel C. Wetherell b. N.Y. and his wife Elisabeth, their children Mary E. Wetherell b. 1866, Charles b. 1868 and Grace b. 1869. In the 1880 census there are mentioned three more children, Edward b. 1872, William Cullen b. 1875 and Paul b. 1877. Miriam Louise was born 1880 too late to be included in the census. I know that Samuel's father was Levi Wetherell born in Grand Isle, Vermont. His parents were Simeon Wetherell and Hannah Presho who married April 1 1775 in Norton, Bristol, Mass.
Samuel was a farm laborer during the early years of bringing up his family but by the time he moved to Rockford, Illinois he is listed as being a school teacher. Mary the eldest member of the family never married and as far as I know lived out her life in Battle Creek, Mich.
Charles Bryant Wetherell became a minister and married a lady called Golda Thompson b. 1875 in Edgar Co. Ill. The marriage took place in Rockville, Ind. 18th Nov. 1908. They are together in the 1910 U.S. census but Golda went back home to her parents. Charles died in 1923. William C. married a lady called Maude but I can't find a record for that. William died young.
Edward Wetherell married Nettie Lane in 1893 and they had a son called Osborne b. 1894. Edward and Nettie were divorced after which he married Margaret O'Neil and had two daughters, Eileen E. b. 1905 and Miriam b. 1908. Edward's job was in printing for advertising. He was well known in the town and his obituary with his picture is in the Rockford Morning Star February 7th 1918. Osborne married firstly Hazel Wilcox of Rockford, Ill. in 1923. There were no children. He divorced her and married Dorothea Helen ?. There were no children.
I am interested to connect with anyone who has further information about this family.
