Timothy O'Brien

Journal by sharonobrien

Timothy was my great grandfather, he married in Chritchurch NZ. He was part of the Armed Constab. He served in the Taranaki during the "Wars". He gained land in Pongaroa in Waiarapa. His cildren all born in Lyttleton NZ.
He was Catholic and his wife Anglican.

This we all in the family know and have the records.

What we do not know is where he came from.... because of conflicting assumptions and stories.

His father was John, his mother was a Horan, Ellen or Johanna we cannot be sure. Both names are in the family stories.

Some say he was born in Australia, on the goldfields, his father John was a Irish gold miner.
Others state he was an Irish native.

Castlemaine figures heavily in family stories.. Victoria and Ireland??

O'briens old and new all have promiment noses, in the past deep set eyes.

Could have lived, where ever gold could have been found - especially from the 1850s to 1870s.
