Two Mary Ebbotts help need to disentangle them

Journal by kerbent

There are two Mary Ebbotts in the 1841 Census, and both are living with relations. I have managed to solve the identity of one of them but the other who must somehow be related is a complete mystery to me, Im sure shes related but I cant work out how, I am presuming that Ebbott is her married but that leaves me none the wiser. Anyone know who Mary Ebbott who is living in the with the Bone family below is? Fro further detail see below:-

I have come across duplication in the census, ie the person is away from home and is recorded at home as well as the place they are visiting

I think there is more information in your two census lists than already mentioned. There is the reference to Sarah Bone, so there is a family connection. Secondly there are Congdons on both lists. How many female servants would Bone the farmer have required? It's possible that either Ann Congdon or (more likely Sarah Pearse is Mary Ebbot's servant who accompanied her the 3 miles (the distance between both village centres)from Tresmeer to Egloskerry. It's interesting to look up Egloskerry on Google/Wikipedia. It's never been a large village but it had 552 occupanst in 1841. Tresmeer is described as a hamlet which would have been even smaller. Have you checked death records (and later census) for Mary? If there's only one then it also points to the same person. I wouldn't think given her age in 1851 that she would have moved far from this rural area.

I had not thought to look at the other occupants of the Bone home to see if there were further connections, however it does make sense that Mary Ebbott nee Ferrett would have taken support staff when she went to visit, this would also help explain why Sarah Pearse is listed under Mary Ebbott rather than straight after the youngest Bone child which is where I would have expected her if she was the eldest staff member of the household.
Unfortunately John Bone dies just before the 1851 census so I cant check if the Congdons have moved to the same residence of not, although Anne being a girl she may have married and so therefore not show up as a Congdon in the 1851 census anyway.
Hmmm food for thought and another perspective to examine the data from, maybe next I should revisit the immigration patterns of the entire Ebbott family as I think by the time Mary Ebbott nee Ferret migrates to America most of her family have left to foreign places leaving little or no family left.
