Cobh

Researching my grandparents John Whelan and Ellen Mahony both from Cobh. Married in St Colemans Church 26th April 1917, witnesses Kathleen O'Sullivan and Michael Oakley. John was a pilot and could possibly of been one of those who took the Titanic out from Cobh in 1912. I also believe Johns father (my great grandfather) was also called John and also a pilot, there is a possiblity that he was married to a Catherine Condon? and they had 7 children 6 girls and 1 boy being my grandfather John. Ellen (Mahony) my grandmother did have brothers and sisters I think called Peg and Mary? her father was also called John. My grandparents lived at number 4 East Hill Cobh and had three daughters Katharine (Kitty) Mary (Moira my mother) and Eileen. When my grandfather died which would of been between 1929 and 1931 my grandmother took a baby boy in from the local nuns called Thomas Lane, no formal adoption was ever taken up. If anyone has any more info on any of the above I would love to hear from you.

John Whelan Cobh

I am trying to build my family tree on my mothers side of the family. Her father was John Whelan, mother Ellen Mahony. John was a pilot and could possibly have been one of those who took the Titanic out from Cobh 1912. My mother had 2 sisters Katharine (Kitty) and Eileen, my mother was called Mary (Myra). John I believed died in 1931 and shortly after his wife took in a baby boy called Thomas Lane no adoption papers available, probably not legal back then.

Ellen, my grandmother had sisters and brothers and could still have relations in Cobh, I do believe John and Michael Mahony are her nephews, I think their mother was called Peg? who would of been Ellens sister.

If there is anyone out there that can help as my mother has now passed on as have her sisters and she didn't talk a lot about her background when she was alive.

Here's hoping

Julia Lane - Crosshaven Ireland ?

Does anyone have information on a Julia Lane who possibly came from Crosshaven. She gave birth to a baby boy on 30th April 1932 named him Thomas. The Birth place was 3 Belmont Terrace Cork.

McGann

I am researching my fathers side of the family. He was born Patrick Finbar McGann in 1920 Dunmanway Ireland to Thomas and Margaret, I believe they were farmers, he had 2 sisters Maureen and Josie and a brother Denis. He joined the army and was based for a while on Spike Island. He married my mother on 27th June 1942 at St Colemans Church Cobh. Both my parents are no longer with us and I would like to trace as far back as I can either on Grandfathers or Grandmothers side or both. If anyone has information would love to hear from you. I think the spelling was changed in the 18/1900's from McGhanne to McGann, BUT CAN'T BE SURE.

Thank you in aniticipation.
