Mary Mariner was born in 1852, her father was Richard Humphrey, but i have no mother details for her, or her parents. She married Levi Pelling, who was born also in 1852 in Petworth , Sussex, England. Mary Mariner was born 1852 Loxwood, Sussex, England. I have her also written as Mary Humphrey from 1881 census, but, nothing about her mother... perhaps her mother was a widow when she married Richard Humphrey , ? In 1881 census Mary (Mariner) and Levi Pelling lived at Smithwood Common, Richard Humphrey was 77 and resided at the family home on the night of the census. But, as I said, i cannot find any information about her parents or even grandparents. I realise that going back beyond 1850's is relying on Parish records more than anything and that the information contains is somewhat sporadic and can be vague, but i would appreciate any information that anyone else has found and is willing to share.
Thank you in anticipation,
After a brief rest , i am now trying to find out more about Fanny LUXFORD, who married James Alfred Whitwick, these would have been the maternal great grand parents to my own maternal grandmother, Charlotte Pelling born 1910 in Woking Surrey, died in 1910 Colchester , Essex. Does anyone know anything about when she married James Alfred Whitwick ? Or when she was born and died. All i know is about her husband , my maternal great great grandfather, and even that is scant information. I don't know how old she was when she married him, or what year it was, or when she was born or died. They had a daughter Charlotte , who was born in Cranliegh, St Nicholas,Surrey England, 1888, who became my mothers mum's mum...( my great grandmother, who's name i also carry as part of my name, but Fanny so far has no details other than her name .
Can anyone help, there were several Fanny Luxfords... but, some were born well before James Alfred Whitwick.... so might well have been too old to have had a child with him.
Here's hoping someone has found her in their family tree and can help .
Thank you .
Samuel Pelling,1883,( Father to Charlotte Pelling 1910-1990) -Who were Samuel Pelling's Parents and Grandparents ?
Looking at my rather patchy family tree, i realize that Samuel Pelling, born 1883 has not yet got parents as such, and that his family tree is non existent. Does anyone know who they were, his daughter Charlotte Pelling was born in Woking, Surrey, England in 1910.Her mother was called Charlotte ( ne Whitwick born 1888) and her Grandfather was Mathew Whitwick, but I don't know what his wife was called? Can anyone help ?
Thank you to all who have helped me so far.
Its a real joy to see my forebears family tree develop, its become my preoccupation and my long suffering family probably think i am having a mid life crisis as all i seem to keep babbling about at random moments , is the development and discovery of the family tree so far.
Family tree research for my paternal great - great grandfather and great-great grandmother, Mary Ellen Baker- married to - Archer Elijah Grimsey
My grandfather,( whom i never met, due to his death during my father's childhood), was called Archer Elijah Grimsey, 1877-1940,died aged about 63, and his wife was Mary Ellen Baker,1893-1969 died aged 76. I would appreciated any information regarding the parents of my Grandfather Archer Elijah Grimsey, for whom i have hit a brick wall. There were several Grimsey families in Stoke by Nayland/Sudbury , but they were not necessarily related, who lived in Suffolk. My late grand father Archer Elijah Grimsey B 1877, was from Sudbury, Suffolk according to the 1911 census, but beyond that i cannot trace any information that accurately leads to his parents and family.PLEASE... does anyone have any more knowledge about him that they can share ?
and .....if possible, also :
My grandmother Mary Ellen Baker B 1893 was the daughter of Ellen Annie Baker born about 1862, but i cannot find any other information about her , or when Annie Baker died, or when Annie Baker married. She was married to Joseph Baker, born about 1861, for whom also i cannot find any other information. Mary Ellen Baker had two siblings as far as I deduced from the 1911 census, these were Albert John Baker 1898 and Edward Victor Baker 1902. This is the only accurate information that i can supply regarding my late Grandmother Mary Ellen Baker B 1893, and i hope this will define who her grandparents were... and any uncles and aunts she may have had.
I am told by my mother that Mary Ellen Baker (Grandma Grimsey) was from Stoke By Nayland, and that Archer Elijah Grimsey her husband, was also from Stoke By Nayland. Both the parents of Mary Ellen Baker were also from Stoke By Nayland area, that is Annie Baker, and Joseph Baker, as already mentioned, but I do not know the maiden name of Annie Baker so cannot trace her mother and father or siblings, who would have been aunts and uncles to my grandmother, or find any further evidence of Joseph Baker's family, such as his parents or siblings.
I appreciate this is a tall order, but would be very grateful to any information that anyone could lead me to completing this family tree.
Thank you in anticipation,
I would appreciate any help in finding the relative details of this side of the family since my father passed away in 2005 and I am no longer able to source information for this side of the family.
Looking for more relatives of Charlotte Heyes, married to Walter Edwin Sanders - her brother John, son of Anne Tasker / Susan Symonds ?Married to Mathew Heyes ( Hayes)
Tis is becoming confusing to me, but I am very grateful to everyone who has helped me so far, including Noggin and Asheppard .
I have been studying the details on the census provided, the anomaly of the spelling of Heyes, Hayes, i allow for the way handwriting is interpreted, as some individual characteristic flourishes and swirls in handwriting can confuse the census reader, but, the family names and groupings do correlate and I really do appreciate any help anyone can give me.

as kindly supplied by Noggin, and asheppard , respectively, is what i am perplexed about. I know that the son John should have been about 11 by the following census of 1871, but he is not listed. Of course, he could have been visiting someone else that evening. ( Did children have "SLEEPOVER'S" in the 1870's... ?) .
How far back do the census records go ? What is the likely hood of taking this family tree back to the 1600's for instance ?
I am a newbie to this genealogy, and the interest in this era of 1700's 1800's through to the first half of the 1900's has increased over the years, but this family interest has been sparked by a quest to help my mother,a daughter of William Herbet Sanders... 1903.
Thank you to all who can help me and who have helped me.
