I am attempting to find the birthplace of my gr-grandfather James Kavanagh born c 1848 in Ireland. Father's name Patrick Kavanagh. This is all the early information I have on him.
He is next found in Birkenhead, Cheshire, England when he married Elizabeth Smith in Jan 1872 - she was also born in Ireland but in King's County.
K/Cavanagh's in California
I am tracing my gr-grandfather's brother (name unknown) who left BIRKENHEAD, CHESHIRE, ENGLAND in the late 1880's. My gr-grandfather was JAMES KAVANAGH and he is rumoured to have 'drowned at sea' en route to the U.S. but in recent years a couple of ladies from California arrived in Birkenhead after tracing their family. I live in Canada now and got this information 3rd hand from a recently discovered 2nd cousin. So we have assumed that the brother arrived in California. If anyone can help that would be appreciated. Thanks, Angela
Looking for Elizabeth or John Smith - Kings County, Ireland c 1800's
Elizabeth Smith was my gr-grandmother - John was her father. She married James Kavanagh in Birkenhead, Cheshire, England in 1872 and they had 7 children. I am trying to trace her place of birth within King's County and also her mother's name and any siblings.
My great grandmother was Margaret Grant. She was born in Dundalk area, Co. Louth in 1855 and died the week after giving birth to my Gran, Bridget Watters in March 1879. I be,ieve her parents were Francis Grant and Bridget Murphy . If anyone has any inf
re this family it would be much appreciated! Thank, Angela
My great grandparents, both born in Ireland c 1848-51. James Kavanagh, father Patrick (he was deceased by Dec 1871 and Elizabeth Smith (born in King’s Co., father John Smith, also deceased by Dec 1871. They married in Birkenhead, Cheshire, Jan 1872.
I have all the family info from that date - their 7 children and descendants. What I also don’t have is death record for James Kavanagh. His youngest child was born Oct 1886 and her father is shown as deceased - obviously around 9 months earlier. Family rumour has it he ‘drowned at sea’ supposedly en route to America. No other info on him.
