We have a John McConnell who was b 1864 in Markethill, Armagh then emigrated to Australia where he changed his name to McConville. His marriage and death records are as McConville likewise his children. Can anyone offer any suggestions as to why he woul
have made this change. My only thoughts are that he was escaping the law although a shift to Aust would avoid most issues without the need to change his name. Markethill is a strongly Protestant area and he was Catholic. Are there any records of people wanted by the police or related to sectarian strife in Armagh?
