My Great Grandmother was Eliza/beth Cruikshanks born in Co Down in 1829. She married James COTTAM in Kilmore, Victoria in 1859.
She emigrated from Poyntzpass to Victoria, Australia around 1859 and her 5 sisters also came out here, but at different times.
Martha bapt 1833, Agnes 1835, Mary Ann 1831, Rebecca 1850 and Sarah 1843. Other members of the family: George 1836, Samuel 1841, Margaret 1848.
On Eliza's marriage and death records, it says surname is Cruickshank/s.
It records her Father as Samuel Cruikshank a farmer from Poyntzpass (1791-1872) and her mother as Margaret Cruikshanks nee M S Cruikshanks (1806-1883).
On other records, it lists the family name as Shanks. The family in Australia and Ireland have used the name SHANKS for decades.
