ADAMS of Columbia Co., PA. - late 1700's

My 4th great grandmother was "Nell" ADAMS, born circa 1780. She married James Alexander AIKMAN around 1800 in Columbia Co., PA.. Apparently she died by 1811, after having children John, Levi and Mary Elizabeth. I descend from her oldest son, John.

I suspect Nell may have been the daughter of local Conrad ADAMS but have been unable to prove it. Would love to solve this mystery one day! After James Alexander AIKMAN remarried he had other children and later moved his 2nd wife and all his family up to Ontario, Canada (before 1831) so none of Nell's descendants are in Pennsylvania.

THE BURKHOLDERS - SWITZERLAND TO PA. IN 1765

My 5th great-grandfather, Jacob Burkholder (b 1747), and his brothers, were born in the Elmenthal Valley, outside Bern, Switzerland but their family moved to Germany to escape religious persecution (they were Mennonite). Jacob & two brothers came to America on the ship Myrtilla, landing at Philadelphia on 21 September 1765. Jacob & brother John settled in Lancaster Co., PA.

Aboard the ship, sailing from Germany, Jacob fell in love with a French Huegenot refugee, Sophia de Roche. They were married after arriving in Pennsylvania. IT appears they were Loyalists because after the Revolutionary War they moved their family up to Ontario, Canada.

Not long after moving to Canada with them, their 2nd daughter, Magdalena (b 1781), married John Neff, son of Abraham and Catherine (Stover) Neff

John & Magdalena's daughter, Catherine (b 1808), married John Aikman (son of James Alexander Aikman) in Ontario, Canada in 1831. The family moved down to Iowa by 1840.

I descend from their oldest child, daughter Harriet Aikman (b 1832) , who married Michael Albright (son of Emanuel & Catherine (Watts) Albright) in 1848 in Clinton, Co. Iowa.

My Albrecht / Albright Ancestors Came to PA. in 1732

My 6th great-grandparents, Jacob & Magdalena Albrecht, came to America in 1732 aboard the ship "Samuel". With them were Michael, age 13; Eva (age 8) and 3 year old twins, Maria and Christina. The family settled down in Lancaster Co., PA.

My direct ancestor is the Michael mentioned above, who married
Elizabeth Bauer.
Their son, also a Michael, married Magdalena Haldeman.
Their son, Emanuel, married Catherine Watts.
Their son, another Michael, married Harriet Aikman
Their daughter Hattie, married Henry Walker
Their daughter,Carrie, married Edward Davis
Their daughter, Vera, was my mother. She married
Johannes Larsen of Denmark.
