Adolph PFLUEGER blew his brains out in a patch of corn...

That was a sad ending for an interesting life. Adolph emigrated from Einbeck, Niedersachsen, Germany. He was born 06 MAY 1843 and rejected the radical political life, choosing to become an immigrant 15 Feb. 1867, settling in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, then moving his family to Madison county, Indiana, USA.

I would appreciate suggestions for finding his German parents.

Early Baptist church membership records for Manchester, Vermont...

SMITH family members helped found the Baptist church in late 1700's Manchester, Vermont. Several cousins and myself have written letters over the years asking how we may examine, get copies, or otherwise access records of the early church to uncover documentation of our early families. We receive absolute silence in response to our queries even when they are directly addressed to present day administrative employees. Any ideas how to research these records? Thanks, J. P. Smith in AZ.

Manchester, Vermont Town Clerk's Office...

OK, no snickering or groaning allowed... I am looking for the birthplace or parents of John SMITH. It's not as hopeless as it may seem on face value. John b:1745 married a good Quaker girl named Mary BULL b:1748 in the Beekman Patent, Dutchess county, New York. Her brother Thomas BULL married John's sister, Martha A. and they all farmed and fought in the Revolution with the Green Mountain Boys in Bennington county, Vermont.

I am interested in hiring a researcher to plop themselves in the Manchester Town Clerk's archive to systematically sift through the holdings for information about this SMITH family. My wife and I were able to get started, but ran out of time. The manager's name is John O'Keefe. I have more information if you are interested. Thanks, JP.

The genie gods have a mean sense of humor when it comes to SMITHs...

Probably 12 years ago a cousin sent, what I later realized, was a Family Treemaker report for 7 generations including my SMITHs. He ran into the virtual brick wall at JOHN SMITH, born 1745 and sister Martha A. both likely in England. Being a newbie I thought I could pick up the trail and discover documentation that would lead to his parents across the pond, as we like to say. After these 12 years of research I probably have 40 bits of source discoveries including even getting John listed as a Son of the American Revolution (SAR); however, we have not moved him 1 inch further back in time to his parents. The Manchester Vermont Town Clerk's office may hold a vital clue. He married MARY BULL, born 1748 in Dutchess county, New York and her lineage is much easier to trace thanks to the studious records kept by the Society of Friends. SMITH DNA studies (Haplo Group R1b1b2a1b), have identified several proven cousins; but, we have not yet made connections in our family gedcom files. So, every morning I look in the mirror to see a modern-day JOHN SMITH who will begin the search anew for his 5th great grandfather, JOHN SMITH. The genie gods chuckle quietly.
