Anyone know about James Armstrong born Ireland, joined the Royal Artillery, married Annie Elizabeth Clark & lived & died in London, England?
I have a huge brickwall here with my other maternal Gt Grandfather.
James Armstrong (b. Sept 1838)in Ireland but village, town, county unknown). Though to be born in what is now Northern Ireland, possibly in county Antrim but I hav eno proof of this as all documents state his place of birth simply as "Ireland". Joined Royal Artillery as a gunner. Not known if this was in Ireland or England. Was probably detached at Portsmouth 1860-61, Aldershot 1861, Plymouth 1862. Married (12 Oct 1874 I have the original certificate)Annie Elizabeth Clark. Both gave same residence at Featherstone St. London. Was he on leave. What employment did she have? She MAY have been a lady's maid in Paddington but this is not disclosed on the marriage certificate. His father is Hugh ARMSTRONG, labourer & hers William CLARK, labourer. The Clark family came from Netteswell & nearby, Essex, England.
James serves in the Anglo Zulu war (see medals in photo)1877-79 but in Transport & Commissariat. 1878 at Fermoy Barracks, Ireland again Transport & Commissariat. 1881 living Broadwalk, Southwark, London & is in Commissariat & Mess. 1891 in 4E Block, Peabody Buildings, Brondesbury, Covent Garden, London - probably on an army pension - but Transport & Mess were both army & private variously in the time of his employ. Died 1899. Does anyone know anything about this James Armstrong? Did he have siblings? Where was he born? Are there any living Armstrong relatives? It was generally believed that James came from Northern Ireland and that his ancestors were originally Scottish & were planted in Ireland, with many other protestant families, in the time of James I. He was NOT RC & neither was his family but it is not known if he kept any other religion. Does anyone have anything to add to the Clark family? Annie's mother was Ann Aylett (Aylet) another Essex family but thought to have been originally French.

I have a wedding photo thought to be McCarthy or Pickworth taken at Deighton Studios, Napier, NZ 1940's 1950's how can I upload it to see if anyone recognises the people?
Wedding photo taken at Deighton Studions, Napier, NZ. about 1940s - 1950s
Thought to be a McCarthy wedding as it came from the house of Teresa nee McCarthy married Roy Flinn but it could be a Pickworth wedding as Teresa's mother was Evelyn Henrietta Pickworth married Thomas Ignatius McCarthy (architect) all of Whitwick, Coalville, Ibstock, Leicestershire, England.
Ideas please?
Looking for anyone researching McCarthy family from Garralacka (near Clonakilty but barony of Killkerrinmore) co. Cork Ireland
My maternal Gt grandfather Michael McCarthy (b 9 May 1848) came to Whitwick Leicestershire, England to teach agriculture at a boys reformatory married (25 July 1871)Ursula Hawthorne. Although some of his brothers went to Chicago & California USA, most of the family stayed in or close to Garralacka where the family had lived as farmers, tenants of Lady Carbery. We are a McCarthy Reagh branch & I have gone back verified to 1800 with the help of a living Irish cousin. Now we have a muddle & a brick wall. Michael's father was Florence Denis Mor McCarthy (b.7 June 1813) & his mother Mary Santry. Can anyone tell me about the Santry family? Florence's brother Jeremiah (b. abt 1800) bred the winner of the 2nd Grand National at Aintree, Liverpool with a horse callled 'Jerry M'. He married (27 Feb 1827) Ellen McCarthy Sowney ( a cousin). There are family graves at Gornascarty. ALL THIS IS VERIEFIED.
Their father was Tadg (Timothy)(b. abt 1770) who married (24 Dec 1803) Margaret Keohane. Tadg apparently lived to be 107 years old ! Anyone tell me anything about them? Tadg's father was also Tadg (b. abt 1750) who married Gillian (Julanne) O'Reilly. He had a brother Cornelius (b. abt 1755). Their father was Florence McCarthy Gaibhdeagh (b. abt 1710). The men's names are verified but the names of their wives & the BMD are not. ANYONE HELP PLEASE? My public tree on www.ancestry.co.uk (or .com) is 'Josephine Salt FamilyTree Halloween 2012'
Picure is Michael McCarthy & his wife Ursula (nee Hawthorne)
