Catherine McCall Gray: More on my major brick wall.

Son Allen Wheeler on his mother's family.
Excerpt from letter to Queenie C. Wheeler in 1962.

"Our grandfather's name was Alican Gray. Our mother's mother was part Mohaw (sic). Her maiden name was Catherine Jahones."

Catherine McCall Gray
Birth - 11 April 1872
Illinois, United States
Death - 16 June 1910
Keokuk, Lee, Iowa, United States

Parents: Alican Gray and Catherine Jahones both from NC according to census for Catherine's parent's birthplace.

Notes:
The surname "Jahones" is a hard one to find. I am curious if he was spelling it like it sounded so I often try different variations on the name in my searches.

"Alican" isn't a common name, either. It could have been spelled different as well.

"McCall" is an odd middle name for a girl. No idea where that came from unless it's a maiden name of her grandmother handed down. The name "Catherine" was handed down several generations in this family.
