Has anyone out there done any research to find the ancestors of George and Rebecca Starmer who married in 1874 in Cottesbrook or Guilsborough Northamptonshire? They had about 11 children, the eldest of which was Agnes Emma b. 1875. Thanks in advance for any help

Does anyone know who is the father of Maria Sandford? There are a couple of possibilities, William or Dudley, but I'm not sure which one it is, I can't find her baptism record

Having researched my family tree ( Brereton), I know that the family have been farmers going back many generations. Thomas Brereton and Martha Hughes of Harthill, my 2 x great grandparents, were farmers, as was their son Edward and the generations following him. However when you look back to the generations before Thomas and Martha the occupations become less clear, but I have found a document dated 1722 that sheds a little light on the subject, namely the Last Will and Testament of Sandford Brereton, son of Jonathon Brereton and Maria Sandford.
The writing and terminology are quite difficult to read, but basically he leaves a life interest in all his goods and chattels to his loving wife Lydia and £30 (equivant to approximately £4000 today) to each of his children Sandford, Hester and Thomas on reaching 21 years of age. The rest to be shared on Lydia's death.
But the interesting thing is that the will reveals that Sandford is a victualler in Stapeley. The brewing equipment in the brew house is listed amongst other goods in the valuation dated 1723.
A nice glass of beer makes a change from a nice? glass of milk at the end of a hard days' work!!

For anyone out there who is looking for information on Ralph Brereton of Iscoyd, the following information maybe of interest to you. I have seen an entry on someone's family tree stating that Ralph Brereton was from Bangor is coed ( beneath the wood). This information maybe misleading to your research as I believe that in fact he was from the area known as Iscoyd, a hamlet within the parish of Malpas, a completely different place from the village now known as Bangor Is y coed, or Bangor on Dee. The Iscoyd of the days of Ralph Brereton still exists, and in the seventeenth century was also the home of Thomas Brereton who lived at Wolvesacre of Iscoyd. There are several properties at Iscoyd with the name Wolvesacre, but there was once a Wolvesacre Hall, which I believe was taken over by the Iscoyd Park estate. There is a record of a will bequeathing something to Sir Thomas Brereton (High Sherriff of the county of Flinsthire in the 1600s), by one of the Jennings family of Iscoyd Park, a large estate in that area. Bangor on Dee was not known as Bangor is y coed until the 17th century, as it was previously known until then as Bangor Dunawd ( a saint of that area) or Bangor Monachorum, (Bangor of the monks ) because of the monastery based there at the time.

Having traced my family tree back to jonathon and Maria ( nee Sandforde) Brereton, I was a little unsure that tracing any further back reliably was at all possible as the birth record of Jonathon is unavailable in the records. This leaves tracing the father of Jonathon purely speculative. It seems to be widely believed that his father is one Richard Brereton and his mother Elizabeth Renewicke, but this record is of a birth of a John. At the risk of repeating a former journal I don't believe that he would be named anything other than Jonathon on his baptism record. Also he is widely believed to have died in Warrington, but he remarried and had a second family in Wybunbury after the death of Maria. I have a death of Jonathon Brereton in Wybunbury in 1701, and I always thought this to be perhaps a little early although of course not impossible. However I have now found a death of Jonathon Bruerton in Wybunbury on July 24 th 1719. From all the dates of the family events, remarriage, births etc it seems entirely likely that Jonathon was in fact originally from Wybunbury, son of Jonathon Brereton and went back to live there on the death of his wife Maria. His son Sandford from this first marriage did in fact get married in Wybunbury.
This would likely mean that the death of Jonathon 'Bruerton' in 1719 is the record of death of the Jonathon that married Maria Sandforde in Acton. So now to go another generation back I need to find the birth record of Jonathon who died in Wybunbury in 1701.

Has anyone actually found the baptism record for Jonathon Brereton who married Maria Sandforde in Acton , Nantwich in 1683. I have seen 'Jonathon' on the birth record of Sandford, and I have a burial record of a Jonathon in Wybunbury (near Nantwich) in 1701. Some family trees I have seen have him as dying in Warrington in 1690, though I think this unlikely, especially in view of the Wybunbury death in 1701.
With regard to the baptism record, some people have him down as 'John', son of Richard. Again I think it unlikely that he would be recorded as anything other than Jonathon, particularly as a baby, when he was recorded as Jonathon throughout the rest of his life.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Have been looking again at the family tree of Thomas Brereton and Martha Hughes and have discovered that they had a son Samuel, born ~1848, quite a long time after their other children. I know this because I came across his marriage lines in Ontario, Canada. He married at the age of 64 to a Martha Hurleston, also 64. It clearly states on the record the names of his mother (Martha Hughes) and father (Thomas Brereton) and birth at Harthill. The year of his marriage was 1912. which makes his birth year ~1848, about 10 years after the rest of his siblings. This is the first time I have found 'proof' that the wife of Thomas was indeed Martha Hughes, as I have yet to find the record of their marriage. I hope that this find is helpful to some of you in researching your ancestors
