Mr. JOHN SMITH was appointed Secretary of the Marlborough Education Board in the year 1890. He was born in March, 1834, in London, England, and was educated at Marlborough, in Wiltshire, and under his brother-in-law, Dr. Badham. In October, 1855, Mr. Smith arrived in Nelson, and during the ensuing nine years was engaged in surveying, teaching, and farming. In 1864, he was appointed headmaster of the Nelson Boys' School, and eleven years later he accepted an appointment as secretary and inspector to the Westland Education Board.
Can anyone help me to find the family connection between John Smith and his brother-in-law Dr Badham please?
Can anyone help me find the date and place of death for William WELSH.
Should be Cheviot/Kaikoura area but unable to locate.
John McNally married Margaret Haney/Hinney (unsure of spelling)
in Gateshead Durham.
They had 3 daughters that i know of Isabella, Elizabeth (my great grandmother) and Catherine.
Isabella married Thomas HALL 1873. I think this family stayed in Gateshead.
Catherine married a John HALL 16 Oct 1879 in Newcastle and they had 5 children and then came out to NZ, children Margaret Louisa, Minnie, John,Robert and Willie. (such difficult names to trace!)
Elizabeth my grandmother married Robert ATKINSON and had 11 children (also stayed in England)
I think the Thomas Hall and John Hall could be related.
Anyone know these families at all please?
She married in NZ to a William Welsh born abt 1860 who was from Kirkcudbrightshire
