This photograph was passed down by my maternal grandmother Elfrieda Gertrude Anna BLAESS who was born in Taranaki (on the west coast of the North Island)in 1898. Her mother's family were settlers in the Upper Moutere, NELSON region of the South Island and her father (known as Gottlieb) was a Lutheran missionary from Wernigerode in Saxony. There are no names or dates on the photograph but I'm hoping to at least date it (from clothing and photographer's identity). Gottlieb and his family left NZ for Australia in 1905.

The inscription on the back reads: 'W.M. Nixon & Son, Travelling Photographers. Copies can be had. Apply to W.M. Nixon, near Wellington.'

I'm researching my maternal line and have got back to Johanna Maria Dorothea Drogemuller, b. 1851 in Niedersachsen, Germany, m. 1869 to George Bensemann, d. Aug. 1930 in Nelson, NZ.

I am especially interested in tracing her mother's line but also the Drogemuller ancestors and any information about when the family emigrated to NZ.
