Nicholas John Old and Grace Ann Hooper
Nicholas John Old and Grace Ann Hooper were married in Melbourne in 1874. MRN 1562. Though it says Launceston on the Pioneers CD. SO not sure about the location.
Children born to the couple were-
Mary Ann born 1877. BRN 21756.
Martha 1879 at Dookie. BRN 8630.
William John 1881 at Devenish. BRN 15698.
Emily Cadelia 1883 at Devenish. BRN 15778.
Lavinia Sophia 1885 at Devenish. BRN 17036.
Theophilus Samson 1887 at Devenish. BRN 18944.
Gertura Ivy Theresa 1889 at Devenish. BRN 11659.
James Henry 1891 at Devenish. BRN 22127.
Olive Daisy Grace 1893 at Devenish. BRN 3021.
Lives of the children are as follows-
Mary Ann Old married Frederick William Berthun at Devenish in 1901 MRN 5864.
They went on to have three children - William John born 1902,
George Raymond 1904,
Daisy Lavenia 1906.
All were born in Wangaratta.
Though on the listing it shows the father of Daisy as being Albert Edward Berthun not Frederick William Berthun. Which is very strange.
Lavinia Sophia Old married John Beggs at Boxwood in 1909. MRN 9048
William John Old married Mary Elizabeth Beggs in the same year and place. MRN 7415
This might be a case of a brother and sister marrying a sister and brother.
Gertura Ivy Theresa had a son Albert in Ballarat East in 1917.
Theophilus Samson married Cath Annie Church in Devenish in 1914. MRN 88. They had daughters Lillian Grace b 1914, Iris Cath b 1917 and Mavis Jean b 1920.
Martha married John Thomas Roberts at Boxwood in 1905. MRN 4970.
Emily Cordelia married Robert Cummings in 1916. MRN 10952.

O'Donnell Births Deaths and Marriages
I recently joined our local Family History Group in Benalla.
I have been able to access their CD's and found large numbers of Australian O'Donnells.
I have printed out 200 names from each of the following indexes :-
(tho there are many more names on each index that is the maximum allowed for printing)
Births Deaths and Marriages for Victoria from 1889 - 1901 called the Digger Federation Index.
Births Deaths and Marriages from Digger Edwardian Index for Victoria 1902 - 1913.
Death Index from Digger dates range from 1921 - 1985.
These records show the parent's names if known, the location of the event whether it be a birth, a death or a marriage and the registration number of the event. I am sure we are all used to seeing either BRN, DRN or MRN. It also shows the age of the person listed at the time of the event.
All good viewing. This helps you put the right parents with the correct children and gives the maiden name of the mothers.
So if you require some information about the O'Donnells I think I can help you and if I don't have it with me today I can go back to the group and do some more searching.
Contact me if you need my help.
Cheers

O'Donnell Family in Victoria Australia-updated January 10th 2008
My parents were Roy Albert and Beryl Eve O'Donnell.
They lived in a small country town called Benalla, where my brother and I were born.
Mum was born 13th June 1927 and dad was born 10th September 1908. He used to say it like 10 09 08. Which was pretty cool.
They were married 11th December 1954. A second marriage for both of them.
Dad had a son from his previous marriage but mum didn't have children the first time round.
My dad passed away in December 2003 he was 95. Mum passed away after she had her hip replaced as a complication of the surgery in March 2006 she was just 78.
They didn't quite make it to their 50th Wedding Anniversary which was a shame for them.
My mother did alot of research on dad's side of the family. She has passed all her work onto another younger member of the O'Donnell Clan.
Her family lived in Warburton where she grew up and her dad was Thomas Hansen and her mum was Janet Olive Johnson. Thomas was involved in the bush and he used to use bullocks and drays to bring down the cut trees down from the hills and Olive's family had a foundry I think in Brunswick. I have a few cast iron mementoes of the era.
Thomas was the first person to own a truck in the area and at the time of the war it was comandeered by the Army.
Hamilton Lewis O'Donnell was born in Omah,County Tyrone Ireland. He is the great great grand daddy of this line of the O'Donnell clan.
Dad had a brother Rex who lived up in Queensland with his wife Molly.
Rex lived to a grand old age as well.
Roy and Rex worked together and were builders or carpenters. There is many a house in Benalla that I could say my dad had a hand in. As well as some of the stores in the main CBD.
Will I do the Family Tree on the O'Donnells from my side? Maybe one day I will attempt it. At the moment I am concentrating my efforts on my husband's side of the family, the Tollidays. You will see I have written many journals on this family as I have been given so much information and it has been easy and a pleasure to do.
There is no point in me researching the O'Donnells because it too has been done but I just don't know who has got it all. And if they plan to make a website on it.
Tho yesterday I did find a site with the names of Hamilton Lewis and his children. There were no details of my dad's name or our names in the listing. SO I'm guessing that we haven't been linked up yet.
I think my father's father was Albert Edward O'Donnell. The children's names and Birth years as follows:- Edith b 1875, Albert Edward b 1879, Edwin James b 1881, George Lewis b 1884, Rebecca b 1886 and Maud Mary Adelaide b 1888 and ones with dates to come- Annie L, Charlotte M, Daisy Ethel, Emily Jane, Robert John, Cecile A M, Evelyn V,
That would account for the family name of Albert being passed onto my dad as a second name.
Drop me a line if you are related to me and mine.
Cheers

O'Donnell's in Victoria, Australia
I have joined a Family History Group locally.
I have been able to access their resources and have 100's of O'Donnell names to look at.
Birth, Deaths and Marriage records - includes registration numbers, mother's maiden names and location of the event.
I have printed off numerous pages of the Death Records for 1921 - 1985. I have a little more to bring home but at this stage think I would have about 800 names at hand.
If you would any assistance with O'Donnell names year of death, etc, I may be able to help you.
