Prospector on Family Tree Circles

William Yates joined the British Army Rifle Brigade in London in 1887 as a Bandsman at the age of 14. It is understood that he was born in Soho, London in 1872 and that he had a brother Edward. However the Census for the period does not show a William that fits this profile. So where was he born and who were his parents?
