looking for death of Herbert Probine no NSW record

Hi my name is Ray Verdon I live in Australia and am looking for infomation about my family, looking to follow the main trunk with short side tracks the main intrest being
Ray Verdon married to Joan Sullivan
Clarence Verdon married to Beryl Probine
Frances Verdon married to Anna Vonthien
James Verdon married to Margaret Sheehan
I am having a problem trying to trace back past James as on documents he only put a mother and this was shown as Mary Gallagher so trying to find a where and when is hard

Like most people starting to look at family history it soon becomes clear that we dont talk much I look at how little I know about my family and how little my children know about me and my childhood so I have written down things that I remmber things that children of today have never seen or heard of maybe we all should try to do the same

Am looking for Mary Verdon the mother of my great great grandfather on his death certificate her name is shown as Mary Gallagher so some where between1832 and 1916 she became a Gallagher I have no name so don't know where to start looking I can not find a record of the birth of James Verdon who said he was born at Parramatta nsw the first record, is his marriage to Margaret Sheehan at Conargo nsw in 1861.
He called himself Verdon so I guess that his mother was Verdon and later married a Gallagher but my great great grandfather did not take his name and didn't except it to show on any official records this means that I have no male name to look for and a span of 20 odd years
