I am a descendent of Captain William Innes through his son William(1885), his son Frederick William(1912) and his son Frederick John(1940). I am looking for any descendents from the Captain's children who were all born in Cairns I believe.

I have become very interested in this great-great grandfather of mine. I heard tales while I was growing up of my famous relative who was a builder T.B O'MEARA who built many a landmark in Cairns, Queensland. I now live in Charters Towers and while researching about him found he lived here for approx 10 years from late 1880's to 1890's. He may have built, with his brother Patrick, the St Mary's convent(1892) which is still being used. I have also found out he built the Mt St Bernard's convent(1918) in Herberton and many schools in the Herberton district during early 1900's.

For some reason he may have worked in mines between 1897 to 1907 in Eidsvold, Degilbo and Canoona before opening new ones near Herberton.

He is orginally from New Zealand. He was born in Mangapai in the Northland in approx 1864. His father may be John O'Meara who was one of the first settlers in the area. He moved his family to Gisborne sometime in the 1880's. I would like to know of how and when he got to Australia with his brother Patrick. Patrick apparently died in Gisborne in 1895. Any help would be appreciated.
