BRIGHTON and WILLIAMS family

I never knew my maternal grandmother , Elizabeth WILLIAMS. She died at a young age in a flu epidemic. We lived in Wales and WILLIAMS is a common name here so I assumed she was Welsh. My mother however insisted she was born in Devon. My mother had no contact with either of her parents family so I knew nothing about them. When I bought my grandmother's wedding certificate her father's name was given as JOSEPH WILLIAMS and this sent me climbing the wrong tree. It was when I purchased his death certificate I found out that Joseph was actually JOSIAH - presumably known as Joe and an assumption when he was at his daughter's marriage. I was able to find Josiah in the censuses and found that he had married SARAH BRIGHTON. My grandmother was the youngest of 9 children of Josiah and Sarah which makes me wonder why none of them kept in touch with the 2 children who survived when their sister and 2 babies died.Sarah's grave is quite an ornate one at St Teilo's Church , Pontardulais , near Swansea , Wales but there is no sign of Elizabeth's grave. Sarah BRIGHTON was born in 1881 in Beerferris Devon , the 6th child of 13 children born to Charles Green BRIGHTON and Charlotte FERRIS. Charles was a farmer , son of George BRIGHTON born 1770 in Lakenham Norfolk and Hannah PECK.

Brolochan Scotland

In my hunt for my ancestor Jane Bell I found her living in 1841 in Scotland with , I assume , grandmother Margaret Brolochan. This is an unusual name and I will be happy to hear from anyone researching it.

Anyone looking for William James Warner?

My grandfather is a complete mystery! He married my grandmother Elizabeth Williams in Pontardulais , near Swansea , Wales in 1913, he gave his age as 40 , said he was a bachelor , he was a labourer. He gave his father's name as William James warner , horse dealer. William was illiterate . There were no other Warners mentioned.
William and Elizabeth had 4 children, William James 1914 , Sophia Edith 1916 , Edward Francis born February 1920 and Walter Charles born 1917 died 1918. Elizabeth died in 1920.
My mother thought he said he'd been born in Banbury (no trace ), that he'd been a cook in the Boer war (no trace ). She said he had a strange way of talking - he said " come and get thy Vittles" when calling them for food. He found his surviving children jobs and lodgings when they were 14 and then disappeared. I cannot find record of his death.
Since first writing this journal I have been told that William's father , who's occupation on the marriage certificate was horse dealer , would have been a traveller , or gypsy , moving from town to town which will explain why William my grandfather signed his name with an X at his marriage and why they do not appear on censuses.
