My name is Trevor Norris and I'm looking/asking for any help on locating any useful information on my family, past and present.
I know very little information on my ancestors. I have been provided a rough historical run-through by my uncle. In it, the first of my family came across from England in the 1700's, and their name was Bletsoe. It was later come to Bledsoe. I know that that family fought in the Civil War, some on the North, some on the South. The one name I have been able to recover from that time period is Hiram Bledsoe who fought, not only in the Civil War, but also in the War of California, in Sacramento. After the war, he and his men, supposdly, took a brass cannon from the Mexican Army and pulled it all the way back to Kentucky. It stayed there until the Civil War, where he, and his battalion, used it against the North with great success.
Then, there's the matter of my great-grandmother, whose surname was Coombes. It's said that she was full blood Cherokee. But no one truly knows.
I know, basically, nothing of my Norris name, given that my grandfather died when my father was only 15 years old. I know that he couldn't serve in the military because he was too young for one war, then too old for the next. I also know that he had brothers. I don't know anything about them.
As for my mother's side, I know my grandmother's maiden name was May. She passed over 15 years ago, but her sister still lives, although she is suffering from dementia. So I'm unable to know anything past them. My grandmother, Marianne May, married my grandfather, Raymond Leroy Cable, in the 1950's or 1940's. He served in the U.S. Navy for some time, then was Honorably Discharged in the 1960's or 1970's. He passed in 2003.
I, again, ask for any help you may be able to give me. Thank you.
