Ridout & Bradley Family from Dorset England to Ohio

Frederick James Ridout:
According to tombstone in on family farm on Long Lick Road in Adams Co. Ohio:
DOB 2 Feb 1824 DOD 1 Feb 1905, born in Dorsetshire, England. (have photo)

I have lots of info on children. I am posting my research findings on Frederick's father & grandfather gleaned from Dorset, England online records and from other family researchers living in Dorset, England.

From online research of Dorset Parish Records:
father was John Ridout, b. Dorset & mother Ann Bradley, b. Dorset.
christened 9 Feb 1824 in Holnest, Dorset, England
Attended school, moved with parents to Piddletown <1835>

1841 Census Norris Hill, Dorset, England
Frederick's age as 15 and lodger in John Porter household.
Frederick's occupation as 'gamekeeper' (I assume he was an apprentice)

United States Research
According to the 1900 Green Twp. Adams CO. Ohio Census, Frederick states he came to the US in 1845. I have yet to find him on a passenger list.

16 Apr 1848 married Mary Jane Gifford, dau. of James & Sarah Rogers/Rodgers Gifford, in Adams Co. Ohio. Seondary source is the 1850 Census of Green Twp., Adams Co. Ohio where it shows they were not mrried in the year prior to the census.

1850 Green Twp., Adams Co. OH
Household 106 Frederick age 25, Mary age 23, and son Chauncey age 6 months

One thing to note here - property listed in Mary Jane Ridout's name on a map of Adams Co. Ohio and is adjacent to her parents property. Reason? An unnaturalized immigrant cannot own property. But Frederick did become a US citizen because he served as Justice of the Peace in Adams Co. Ohio from 11 Apr 1888 to Apr 1894. Citizenship was one of the requirements.

Let me back up to John Ridout.

Now on to what I've discovered for Joseph Ridout:
On marriage record, Elizabeth is listed as the widow of a Ridout. Assumption was made by 2 other family researchers and myself that she may have been a sister-in-law. Search on www. dorset-opc.com led to discovery that Robert Ridout married elizabeth Bartlett on 25 May 1770 in the Parish of Holnest, Dorset, England. Also discovered on this site is a John Ridout marriage to Jenny Loader date 12 Oct 1762. It states that John's parents were Robert Ridout of Middlemarsh & Elizabeth Bartlett of Leigh. So it's very possible that Elizabeth and her 1st husband had children before his death/divorce.

Robert Ridout & Elizabeth Bartelott married 25 Mar 1770, Parish of Holnest
Joseph Ridout, singleman, & Elizabeth Ridout, widow, both of this parish (Holnest) married 26 Jan 1775.

At age 14, James went to work on the farm of his oldest sister, Mary, after her husband (George Sparks) died. I am assuming he returned home after her second marriage.
1930 Census at that address shows 2 HOH, the other being James' father and step-mother. James' siblings, Emma & Monroe, are listed as part of James' household. I think it must have been 2 apartments.

1918 Draft Registration Card shows address as Mt. Olivet, Robertson Co. Ky.

The home on Lake Charles he built. James was a contractor and owner of Zeigler Bros. Construction Co. in Maysville, Ky. His youngest brother, Monroe, was a partner. Alfred is in household (age 8) with T. McLaughlin as HOH. His older siblings, Thomas & Mary, are in Oddville, Richland Twp., Harrison Co, Ky. Thomas is in the Tomlins Barlow household while Mary is in the Alfa Barlow household.
The only explanation I have for this is an assumption from my cousins' research. Their mother had died before the 1870 census. Apparently the children were placed with friends/relatives. Their father has yet to be found on the 1870 Census.
