Bio
My research so far goes as follows:
Generation 1:
Charles MARTIN (b 1846, Lambeth or Hackney, London) = Emma Richardson b 1851.
Charles worked as a coal porter on the Thames and I've found him and the family in the 1901, 1891 & 1881 censuses, living in Lambeth, latterly in Duke St (now Duchy St) and Charles St (now Nicholson St). Charles was know as 'Black Dad' in the family, because he was always covered in coal dust!
Generation 2: Children of Charles MARTIN & Emma RICHARDSON:
Emma b 1871, Lambeth (from 1881 census only)
Mary, b 1873, lambeth (1891 census)
Katy (Catherine), b 1875 ( " )
Annie b 1877 (1891 census)
Lizzie b 1879 ( " )
Charles b 1881 (1891 & 1901 census)
William (1) b 1884, d 1912, Catford, from falling off a ladder (my gt grandfather) (1891 & 1901 census)
Frederick b 1887 ( " )
John (Jack) b 1891 ( " )
We know nothing of any of these sibs, apart from William. If you have these in your tree, please let me know!
Generation 3: Children of William MARTIN (1) = Emily Sarah COOPER (m Christ Church, Southwark, 1903):
William Charles (2) (my grandad) b 5 Jan 1905, Cory Square, Lambeth. d 10 Feb 1996, Faversham, Kent. Grandad worked in London but spent a lot of time playing the piano in pubs. He and my Dad taught me to play. He married Emily Cooper in 1903. When William died in 1912 she remarried James (Jimmy) Hay. She died in Yorkland Avenue, Welling, in 1965.
Emily, b 1906, Engleheart Rd, Catford, m William Broome and d
Harry, b 1909, Catford, m Grace Ingram and d 1995, Worcester park
Violet, b 1910, Catford, m Stanley Rayden and d2002, Brighton
Generation 4: Children of William Charles MARTIN (2) & Emily Rose BELCHEM (b 1899):
William Charles Martin (3) b July 1926, Catford (my Dad). Worked for Times Newspapers for many years before Mum & Dad emigrated to California and worked successfully there before retirng to the UK in the early 1990s.
Pete Martin b 1931, Catford, b 1932 Catford, d 1983 Bexleyheath
Generation 5: Children of William Charles MARTIN (3) and Ethel (Jean) PETERSON (b 1928, d Salisbury 2006)
William Charles (4) - ME! - b May 1955 Woolwich.
Peter Ian - b Feb 1957 Woolwich
Frederick Leonard Arthur - b 1965, Glenhurst Avenue, Bexley.
The bit I'm really stuck on is Generation 2: Charles & Emma's siblings. Apart from their appearance in the 1881, 1891 & 1901 censuses I have no other information about their lives. We believe that one or more may have emigrated to the USA.
Please contact me if you know anything about them.
